Making an appointment with Selva's Fertility Clinic was fairly easy. I tried to make an appointment on Sunday morning. Yes, I'm aware that Sunday is an off day but in Johor we work on Sundays and we rest on Friday-Saturday so I totally forgot that it was even a Sunday to begin with. Calling the number on the website turned out to be the wrong number so I called Mahkota Medical Centre - which was when they told me to call again tomorrow! What a spaz!
I commented on the "contact us" part on the website and got an email from the associate partner of the clinic within hours - Dr Agilan. As a result, the receptionist called me and we set up our first appointment that way. She took a brief history on the phone so be prepared for some personal question, haha.
The appointment itself was a breeze.
We sat in the waiting room from 8.30 - 9.00 am (receptionist told us to come at 8.30 but the doctors come at 9.00). very limited seats and i wish family members (i.e. not the husbands) would sit outside so patients would have seats. Patients with appointments much later on (10am, 12pm) also come very early in the morning so it all makes for a "meriah" waiting room. They called me at 9.05 am. I think its because I'm a doctor. One of the few perks of being a doctor.
Dr Agilan saw me first. He's very professional, asking just the right questions and explaining everything as well. Proceeded with a pelvic scan - bleugh. I opted to have a pap smear as well so that made it all the more uncomfortable haha. Pelvic scan was normal(ish)..just that I have a persistent 2cm follicle in my right ovary (it was there since June)
Dr Selva and Dr Agilan agreed that I should probably go for a hysterosalpingogram, to make sure that my tubes are in A-ok condition and since Dr Agilan saw that my uterus might be a little bicornuate, he wants to do a hysteroscopy as well. Since hubby has not done any sperm analysis before this, we will have to do that too.
When in a private centre, everything has to be paid upfront. Radiology told me that it will be at least an hour before I can get my HSG done as there are two prior patients who are doing a complicated procedure before mine. Hubby did his thing first.
The HSG was uncomfortable to say the least. The doctor performing it was not the cheery kind, and I felt really annoyed that a doctor like that was working there. It was a very exposed procedure (strip down to your bra leh) and he didn't even do anything to make the patient (me in this case) feel better. He comes in, straight away took the speculum and pushed it in my vajay-jay without even a "hi ma'am" or whatever. And afterwards, he took off the radio protective gear, threw it on the shelves and went off without a "okay that's all". The nurse who assisted him in the procedure was a very warm, friendly person. The contrast between them was like night and day! So if you have to do a HSG, maybe do it in Pantai or another centre..haha
After reviewing all the results with Dr Agilan in the afternoon, we had the hysteroscopy done which also showed a normal uterus (yay!). No bicornuate uterus. Just a cute, fluffy uterus.
Our diagnosis....PCOS!
I knew it! My scans were normal but with my symptoms, I was pretty sure I had PCOS. Dr Agilan told me to stop my Diane pills and to wait for my normal menstrual cycle. I was to induce my ovulation with Clomid pills from Day 2 to Day 5 for 3 months, and to see him again if no pregnancy occurs for 3 months.
So far..no Aunt Flo..
CD 16 and counting! :)
Hoping for the best....
